10:04 pm - A break
|
|
So, seeing as I do not regularly post anymore, nor do I go to great lengths to keep up on other people's lives here anymore, I will be halting updates, blog postings etc for a bit. I may resume at a later time. I may stop altogether. I dunno. If anyone really needs me, either email, call, facebook or myspace me. woot.

10:51 pm - Counter-Culture
|
The Counter-Culture of America today is not really 'counter' to our culture. Beyond the undeniable fact that it is now marketed and palpable in nearly every way that pop culture is if not more, it is incontrovertibly our culture. It has simply taken the thought and belief wherewith pop culture has deceived itself, stripped it of its self-deception, and embraced the raw naked actuality of that thought which gnaws at our core. It will go down in the annals of the American Empire as nothing more than a dissident harmony striving and failing for originality in the repetitive song of our chosen demise.
Punk rock, in its truest and purest form, lasting from only 1975 to 1979, will go down as the boldest statement against that which has defined our pop culture and society of the last half of the 20th century. It will only do so in that it prophesied what a remnant of our society will become after it consumes itself. A vision of stark desperation that we strangely warrant and are careening towards headlong.
This is bullshit, in the Harry Frankfurt sense of the word. In that this came to me in a flash of inspiration, that I made up, that I have no real proof for, but it sounds good. It could be true, it could be false, but it is a statement made without regard to the actual state of being that exists in our culture today.
Discuss.

10:34 pm - random update.
|
FYI, Rhode Island has an area of 1,045 square miles. Whitman County has more than twice that. Yamhill County is only 300 square miles short(and only has like, six towns) Check with the US Census Bureau to see if your county kicks Rhode Island's petite backside. Have a good night;)

6:24 pm - It finally happened, and it hurts.
|
well, it has happened...Rooster Teeth has posted the 100th and very last episode of Red vs Blue, Blood Gulch Chronicles. It wraps everything up, and is therefore very...moving. I won't spoil it, but the close of this chapter in my/their/everyone's life is a very sad thing. :( I shall recover. I shall move on. I might need a hug.

10:24 pm - life
|
life is good.
So, my car has had an 'ailing' tire that has a leak...it's not been fun. it's gotten worse. I even called Les Schwab to see if I could get new tires tomorrow. Then, coming back from a work event(go-carts!), I find out that it has decided to give up the ghost. luckily, I had a spare. So, I start to change the tire, as I have many a time. Well, the owner of the company offers to give me a hand. He soon got booted by the head tech support guy. I like my company...when the top brass offers to help you change flat tires...you got good people. woot.
AND! I got Project 86's new album!! Rival Factions hits stores tomorrow, and my pre-order got here early. I so love it!! The artwork is crazy...the lyrics are all in that funky font/color combo where you have to have either 3-d glasses or blue or red films. the jewel case is in blue...but I'm still hunting for the red. It's freakin' awesome!! I am so incredibly loving it. i'll try to post a real review of it later. i'm so stoked.
and other things are floating to the surface...hmmmm. But that's what I wanted to happen. cool.

10:17 pm - Quick Note
|
I feel like a hick...I discovered that Washington Square and Bridgeport Village, beyond being freakin' huge and whatnot, are also only fifteen minutes apart, scratch that, like ten. For a guy who's used to driving over an hour to get anything besides Wal-Mart, I'm geeking out. An entire Sony store...I'm so geeking out.
Oh, and first day of work went fine. woot.

5:54 pm - This makes me sick.
|
I realize this is a couple weeks old...but all the same, It makes me sick.
http://news.com.com/8301-10784_3-9719339-7.html
This makes me sick. So much for personal freedom. I'm all for just and fair compensation of artists who work hard and make great stuff. I really am. But seriously...imprisoning people for 'thinking about' and 'possibly intending' to copy a CD...holy freakin' crap. That's as asinine and insulting as it is insidiously heavy-handed. And making Homeland Security report to the bleepin' RIAA? Who on God's green earth do they think they are? Chevron or Phillip Morris?? Let's go one step further and make absolutely sure that the rest of the government bows to greedy L.A. tycoons with nothing better to worry about than their own bleepin' pocketbook. It's no secret that corporations sway and possibly/most likely control some governments...but to have the supposedly most powerful government on earth cow-tow and answer to something as asinine and out-dated as the goddamn RIAA is one of the most insulting and pathetic things I could possibly think of to happen to the artistic and cultural community of America. I'm so infuriated at the arrogance of the RIAA I could vomit, I'll just make sure it's not on something they claim as 'intellectual property' otherwise I could end up in jail for contempt of arrogant greed. Crimeny. If I ever wanted to just start cussing at anything...today would be one of those days. Guess I can't offer mix CDs to my friends anymore, I mean, most days, a life imprisonment for giving away a single mix CD would be alright...but I don't feel like it today.

I know haven't been on here much, but I honestly don't apologize. woot. and you can't know what I had for lunch. suckerz:)
I just had the coolest customer service experience ever. I called Sallie Mae to get some information, they said they were busy...then they said that they would call me back. like, a machine, told me, that they would call me back when they caught up, and that by choosing that, I did not lose my place in line. I was floored. good customer service right there. woot. anyways.
I got a job!! I'm moving to the Portland area doing stuff for TransTech Systems. I'm very excited and fairly nervous. But I'm doing it! I am getting out of Pullman!! woo hoo! yay me. ok bye now.

9:11 pm - Portland, visit 349290348
|
Well, the weekend went well. The play was actually fantastic. I have to admit it, and I feel like a sissy for it, but yes. I went to Pride & Prejudice. And I enjoyed it. And I laughed through most of it. Does that make me girly? I feel the need to crank the hardcore rock to purge my system, but the bizarrely timed comedic wit of Jane Austen in Victorian English was enough to make me tilt my head, go "Eh?" and then sit back and enjoy it. I didn't know a thing about it going into it, but was pleasantly surprised.
Drove down on little sleep, slept for a good chunk coming back, and then took a three hour nap upon my return to stix-ville. so now I'm awake, and thinking too much for my own good. grrrr. coo. see y'all later. bye.

12:52 am - dude
|
It's been a bit of an odd week. and intangibly so. not sure why. thus the intangibility and inability to articulate said oddness. the music has been odd too. been listening to a good chunk of Underoath, Demon Hunter, Anberlin, and Norma Jean. However, I also started listening to a new station (the local college rock indie station, complete with amateur bumbling DJs who switch CDs in the middle of the song, quoting an obscure reason) Also, Dvorak, Korsakov, Mendelssohn, Mozart, and now Colplay. weird. maybe it's the fact I'm watching Smallville like the world's gonna end...wait...it already is. dang it. well, I'm gonna miss it, as I'm catching up. finished season 2 last night, already six episodes into #3. Plus I turned in half a dozen resumes. coo. well, there's my day off for ya.

7:48 pm - Life Update
|
So, life has been crazy, and I hope it settles down now/soon. Easter is over, and that is a huge thing out of the way. It went well except for Friday night. I know at least one person got saved, and it turned out very well. (I was head audio dude for those who didn't know. The other experienced sound peoples were major characters in the play).
So, now I am *transitioning* into "find a freakin' job you slacker" mode, as debt payments start in may/june, and I have no way to handle that when my debt payments start to be more than rent. woot. I spent the earlier portion of the spring thinking about what field I want to get into, and now I know: anything that pays the bills. so much for that.
I also got new music. Demon Hunter's The Triptych and Norma Jean's Redeemer and Snow Patrol's Final Straw but I haven't really listened to the last one. Skillet's Comatose is on the way, but having listened to it some already...I dunno. I'm loving Demon Hunter/Norma Jean, but I'm still of the opinion that Skillet is overrated. I think that Comatose is one of their better ones, if not their best, but still, I'm not such a fan. Skillet's alright, just not the awesomeness they are hyped to be. whatever.
Also had a moment of revelation concerning the Prodigal Son story, which I shall hopefully share more about later. cool. so there's me. bye now.

11:26 pm - SoCal!
|
So, as usual, I was freakin' out over nothing. made it through L.A. alright. traffic was nuts like nothing I've ever seen. one freakin' four lane highway after another, choked maniacly with pernicious...yah. traffic was horrid. My brain is tired, and so does not do so well with forming full thoughts. Frisco was cool, plus I got to see Tyler. First time since Prague, it was so so sweet.
So now I'm in SD. very excited. but i'm gonna shut up now and look for shows in the area. didn't come all this way to be a chump.
oh yah, once again...media has it all wrong. the people have all been very nice and friendly so far. yay for being wrong. I'm honestly glad I was, as holding to stereotypes is not healthy, good, or in any way productive. apologies if I sent anyone off or raised your blood pressure or anything. Opinionated does not equal right. yay:)
and my dad is getting fond of Anberlin...how sweet is that??

12:39 pm - i really do need to think of catchier titles for my subject bar
|
So, I now have my car back. I like. It runs well enough, but I really need to get a new one in the next year. I also need to replace the battery.
The talk that I had been dreading for several days, causing no end of heaviness and trepidation, well, it went fine. It went a lot better than I thought, and I was able to articulate my thoughts without too much bumbling. So I feel better about that. It's so much nicer when everything is out in the open to be dealt with. I think all parties concerned are better relieved.
Spring Break: I am so road-tripping to San Diego! I've never really been to California, so I'm excited yet nervous at the same time. The only people I like to make fun of more than Californians are the French. particularly southern Californians(no offense Ali). I realize this is unfair, stereotyping, and not necessarily healthy but sometimes I just can't help it. I think some of it is because a ton of Californians have moved up here to my neck of the woods, changing the demographic, functionality, and politics of the area. I could stand to be more accepting. I know that there are plenty of cool, intelligent, and rational people there. You just never see any of those on TV. Of course, the only people you really see on TV from Washington are druggies and serial killers. point taken. I will try to stop mocking California.
At any rate, I'm going to be going there finally, visiting Frisco and L.A. for like, half a day along the way. I might also stop in Sacramento for a possible job thing. I also forgot to mention that I'm going with my dad, and that shall be kick-butt. I'm probably the most nervous about visiting L.A., as my image of it from the media is rather one of an entire urban area scraping by to survive in an incredibly dog-eat-dog style. stupid media. At any rate, I think we'll be fine. I dunno, I think I'm mildly twitching over nothing. yay for the interstate.
We'll also be trying to go back through Colorado on our way back. We have friends in Denver that we'll be staying with, and I have every intention of going by Scum of the Earth. It sounds like a very neat place, and I have wanted to visit ever since I heard Reese Roper mention it... Also, Isaac Phillips lives in the area somewhere, but alas, he won't be home then:( We also have to keep an eye on the weather, as some freak storm named Izzie-Hauptbonhoffer could blow through and close the roads. I dunno man, you gotta watch out for freak-german-sounding storms sometimes.
blargh honk honk.
